Learn To Paint
The purpose of this class is to acquaint the student with the various painting techniques and media employed by artists. It is designed as an ongoing course with individualized instruction. One can begin at anytime and continue to build on knowledge gained each week. The process of mixing color, color theory, preparation of the canvas and Art History will be discussed. Students will explore both the traditional and contemporary approaches to painting involving; still life, landscape, and imaginative works in acrylic. Materials can be purchased at a discount at Studio Art. Offered Tuesday evenings 4pm-6:30pm. Private lessons available as well.
Mixed Media Workshops
Did you know that the best art comes from creative play? You will be surprised at what you can do—whether you are an experienced painter or beginner—you will have so much fun! The inspiring music, unrestrained creativity, great open space, and abundant supplies and tools will feed your creative soul. And you’ll leave with new skills to continue to create on your own. In these workshops you will learn to mix acrylic paints, mediums, collage, stencils and printing. Create your finest works or just play, and have a fun productive time in the studio with other people making art. Artists from all disciplines can work side-by-side and spontaneous collaborations may occur. Offered Thursday evenings 5pm to 7:30pm.
Mixed Media Collage
Using various materials and techniques, we will explore the basics of collage, an assemblage of images from different sources. We will include image transfer, stencil, stamping and painting. Overlapping images using different art media like acrylic, metallics, pencils and inks can create great visual interest. Basic design elements will be covered.
Printmaking
Learn the skills of making monotypes and relief prints. We will use both acrylics and printmaking ink to print the designs on various surfaces like magazine images, old maps and various types of paper.
Altered Surfaces
Learn to use various artist mediums to create interesting textures on the canvas surface. The use of collage elements, type, masking and resist techniques and embedded materials will also be explored.
Artist Pages
We will develop individual ideas that involve the skills from the first three workshops to create unique artist pages. Artist pages can cover any subject, they are non-traditional self portraits, a page from an autobiography or a sketchbook. We will create these artist pages on paper, combining text and images and using mixed media collage. Please bring magazines and photos.
WE ARE AVAILABLE FOR PRIVATE PARTIES!
